Hello! I'm Melody Wetzel, your baker and sweets enthusiast here at Black Velvet Bakery.
I started baking decades ago as a way to ease my anxiety and bring a little bit of myself to those that I love, even if I couldn't fully do it with words. Shifting forward I am now a wife and a mother to a beautiful little girl, and that need to provide people around me with a dose of love is still around.
As far as my background in food is concerned, I've worked in restaurants for over 10 years both composing dishes in the kitchen and making guests feel comfortable in the dining room. While my perfectionism helped in the back of house preparing food and plating things with a little bit of flair, I always felt more comfortable on the hospitality side of things. I settled into bartending and that is where I stayed for the better part of a decade. Going into my own business, I love that I get to bring my guest centered approach to service as well as my creativity and balance to all things flavorful.
Honestly though, I just genuinely love all things sweet. So you are in the right place for a truly indulgent experience. I hope you can taste all of the love and forethought that goes into each and every bite.
